The Math Club members in grades 3-5 used straws to generate different sounds. They measured and cut milkshake straws, placed them in size order, and taped them together to create pan flutes. They practiced blowing into the pan fluke and listened to the different notes they were able to make. The shorter pieces produced sounds with shorter wave lengths, which created higher notes. Then the students used a decibel-meter app to measure the sounds/ notes the different sized straws made as they blew into the pan flute. They used math the whole time to create funky music!!
